Alaska eHealth Network’s Regional Extension Center Participation Benefits

The Alaska eHealth Network’s (AeHN) Regional Extension Center (REC) offers technical services to eligible priority primary care providers (PPCP), Critical Access Hospitals (CAH), and rural hospitals, for training and support services to assist in adopting electronic health records (EHRs) and to become meaningful users of EHRs and health information technology (HIT). Meaningful use of EHRs reflects use by providers to achieve significant improvements in patient care.
The REC can support participants with direct and individualized on-site and/or remote technical assistance with:

  • An assigned AeHN HIT/REC point of contact
  • Security and privacy risk assessment tool
  • Prequalification and application for up to $63,750 in State or $44,000 in Federal EHR meaningful use incentives

The REC’s scope of technical assistance, customized to address the needs of your organization includes the following.

I. ASSESSMENT & PLANNING

EHR Planning for Clinics and Hospitals

  • Review assessments

II. EHR SELECTION & IMPLEMENTATION, QUALITY REPORTING, AND E-PRESCRIBING

EHR Selection

  • Provide EHR selected vendor list and advise on selection process
  • Prepare staff and office for EHR system
  • Educate practice in change management concepts
  • Utilize project tools and optimize shared learning
  • Facilitate communications between clinic and vendor(s)

EHR Implementation

  • Prepare staff and office for EHR implementation
  • Assist clinic in holding vendors accountable for hardware and software installation and configuration timelines
  • Proactively monitor meaningful use components of implementation and vendor training

III. MEANINGFUL USE

MU Evaluation

  • Conduct post go-live review of implementation process
  • Conduct meaningful use and EHR implementation assessment
  • Perform meaningful use gap analysis
  • Conduct meaningful use reporting analysis
  • Post-implementation electronic workflow analysis
  • Utilize project tools and optimize shared learning

Workflow Improvement

  • Review EHR impact analysis
  • Refine electronic workflow for efficiency and meaningful use
  • Identify additional care management process improvement opportunities
